Cy Twombly, who’s work has often been described as scribbles on canvas is still controversial to this day. Although he never really fit in with the American Abstract Expressionists of his day, he has emerged as one of the era’s most enduring and important artists. He has been referred to recently as a modern art titan.
Mr. Twombly died Tuesday in Rome, Italy at the age of 83.
The cause of his death was not immediately known, although he had been suffering from cancer. His death was announced by the Gagosian Gallery, which represents his work.
We are very saddened by the loss of this truly gifted abstract artist.
